This 1976 album by renowned Dutch saxophonist Willem Breuker—who showcased his skills in numerous free jazz sessions including with John Tchicai’s group Cadentia Nova Danica, the Globe Unity Orchestra, and the Gunter Hampel Group, as well as at The Baden-Baden Free Jazz Meeting (documented on the 1970 MPS release Gittin’ to Know Y’All)—features a live recording from the 1975 Total Music Meeting held in Berlin, performed at The Quater Latin. The performance brings together an 11-member collective of Dutch musicians including Leo Cuypers (p) and Bob Driessen (as), with none other than Ronald Snijders (fl), known for numerous classic jazz groove recordings, also taking part. With a dynamic blend of medieval musical phrases and aggressive, tempo-shifting improvisations, the album unfolds in an endlessly engaging manner. A thrilling listen from start to finish, featuring standout improvisation from Snijders. Original Dutch pressing.
