A 1984 album by Caetano Veloso, one of the central figures of the Tropicália movement, recorded with his band Banda Nova. Highlights include A3, a three-beat Brazilian reggae tune driven by a tight rhythm section and bright synthesizers, and B1, where Caetano’s buoyant vocals ride over an unmistakably ’80s band sound. Throughout the album, traditional Brazilian rhythms such as samba are combined with contemporary influences including elements of hip-hop, resulting in a strongly rock-oriented sound that vividly reflects the Brazilian music scene of the period.
A3: Nine Out of Ten
