This album was released in 1978 by Frank Wright, a bassist who began his career in bands with Rosco Gordon and B.B. King before transitioning to tenor saxophone after meeting Albert Ayler. He collaborated with Larry Young, Noah Howard, Sunny Murray, and others, and also established his own label, Center of the World, where he left behind some great albums. This particular album, released on the French free jazz label Sun Records, features a sextet including Kamal Abdul Alim (trumpet), George Arvanitas (piano), Reggie Workman (bass), Philly Joe Jones (drums), and Khalil Abdullah (percussion), with vocalist Eddie Jefferson. The album is notable for its impressive spiritual jazz theme reminiscent like Don Cherry's "Togetherness" on A1, and the exceptional and primal chant of Jefferson over a percussive 8-beat and mystical horn ensemble on B1, depicting a Native American and cowboy battle. Highly recommended.
