George Adams Quintet
Paradise Space Shuttle
Timeless (Holland) 1979
SJP 12 (LP) Original pressing.
sleeve : EX (corner scuffs)
media : EX/EX (slight crackling noise in some parts)
Featured in the guidebook "obscure sound ~640 Selections of Utopian Records~". This is the 1979 leader album by American tenor saxophonist George Adams, released on the Dutch jazz label Timeless. George Adams released several leader albums on this label, many of which were hard bop works. On side A of this album, he performs in that style, which is excellent. However, what truly stands out are A2, a soulful slow jazz tune reminiscent of Pharoah Sanders, B1, a cool-breeze spiritual samba jazz track with a similar vibe to Pharoah Sanders' "Thembi", and B2, an utterly fantastic jazz-funk track exceeding 14 minutes. B2 features Adams' own husky blues vocals intertwining with a mid-tempo percussive funk beat. The organic flute development in the middle section is also incredibly cool. Highly recommended.
B1: City of Peace
B2: Funk-a-roonie-peacock
