A very obscure one has just arrived. This 1985 album by ghazal singer Kamalini Malhotra beautifully explores the traditional poetic form of the ghazal—a fixed-verse lyrical style centered on themes of love, originating from Middle Eastern and South Asian literary traditions. While a compilation of her live recordings was reportedly released on CD in the 2000s, it appears that she released only two original albums: Daur-e-Shabaab (1984) and this one. Accompanied by tabla rhythms and the lush, slightly melancholic tones of violin and electric organ, Malhotra’s velvety voice—tinged with a touch of huskiness—delivers a deeply emotive and lyrical performance that perfectly captures the sweetness of the ghazal tradition.
A3: Aya Jaya Karo
A4: Kuch Mohabbat Ka Faisla
B1: Aabad Hai Rindon Se
