This 1972 album comes from the legendary Brazilian guitarist Paulinho Nogueira, who had a long and prolific career from the late 1950s through the late 1990s and is also known as the mentor of Toquinho. Centered around the unique sound of the Craviola—a distinctive instrument Nogueira himself developed, with an asymmetrical body and a tone that blends the qualities of a harpsichord and a viola caipira—the record weaves dramatic orchestrations with bossa and folk, resulting in a quintessential “Exotic Brazilian” masterpiece. On the vocal tracks, there’s even a hint of acid-folk atmosphere. Highly recommended.
