Guinean singer Sona Diabaté—daughter of a griot musician and sister to Sekou 'Diamond Fingers' Diabaté, the legendary guitarist of Bembeya Jazz, as well as Sayon Diabaté—released this album in 1988. Recorded in Paris, France, the album also features Sekou and Sayon as contributors. The interplay between Sekou and Demba Camara’s guitars, with their raw and earthy tones weaving beautiful melodies, creates a deeply moving atmosphere. Meanwhile, Sona’s powerful and life-affirming African chants, telling stories of daily life, history, happiness, and love, resonate with warmth and emotion, leaving a lasting impression. The album was recorded directly onto a two-track video tape, resulting in outstanding sound quality. Highly recommended.
