A very obscure record just came in. A compilation album produced in conjunction with the Ancient Egypt exhibition held in 1983 at the Seibu Museum, located on the 8th floor of Seibu Department Store in Ikebukuro. Includes eight valuable mono recordings selected from 78rpm discs originally released on Odeon, Philips, and Cairophon, among them an early recording by the legendary Arab singer Om Kalsoum on A1, a track by Egyptian singer Mohamed Fawzy, active from the 1940s into the 1950s, on A3, B1 by Syrian vocalist Aiham Rifqi, who was active in the 1940s, and B2 by Ahmed Sherif, a singer from Somalia, the Muslim country located east of Ethiopia. As these tracks were transferred from original 78s, there is some inherent background noise from the source recordings.
A1: Om Kalsoum “Qalu li mata qualbak yateeb”
A2: Hassan & Hussein “Medallaa Dance”
B1: Seham Refki “Yabu al zulaf”
