Released in 1986 by 3 Mustaphas 3, the wonderfully elusive Middle Eastern music collective formed by the Mustapha family, said to hail from the remote Balkan village of Szegerely.
According to various online sources, the group developed its distinctive multinational style while serving as the house band at a local 24-hour club, mastering music and languages from all over the world in the process. On this album, alongside the core members, they expand into a large Balkan-orchestra-style ensemble featuring strings, piano, accordion, synthesizer and more. The result is a brilliantly colourful and exotic dance music album, sublimating rhythmic elements that suggest new wave, ska, African music, Turkish music, North African traditions and Mediterranean flavours. As with their other releases, this is simply a hugely entertaining and fascinating band.
