This 1985 album captures a live performance by three saxophonists—George Adams, Archie Shepp, and Heinz Sauer—who played together at the 16th German Jazz Festival in Frankfurt, Germany, in 1978. They are joined by a sextet featuring Rainer Brüninghaus (piano), Palle Danielsson (bass), and Alex Riel (drums). Highlights include the intense 22-minute session on A1, driven by Brüninghaus’s composition; the deep and spiritual jazz piece on B1, which exudes quiet yet profound emotion; and the beautifully bluesy rendition of a Duke Ellington standard on B2. A consistently outstanding performance throughout—highly recommended.
