This is the only album by Akerema, a group led by percussionist Ponda O'Bryan, released in 1981 as the first album in the catalog of SMA Records, a Dutch label that releases quality African music including PI-Man & Memre Buku. Ponda O'Bryan has also released excellent works under the name of Africa Djole, a group with Fode Youla and others, and Ponda O'Bryan's Drum Ensemble in 1987 on the same label. This album also features a percussion ensemble of seven members performing traditional West African rhythms on a variety of African percussion instruments. The sound is primitive, with a unique polyrhythm created by multiple intricately intertwined beats and lively chants.
