An American saxophonist who made his name in the 1960s New York scene as a leading figure in avant-garde jazz, Albert Ayler released this album in 1975 on the prestigious free jazz label ESP-Disk’. It features a live recording from 1964 at the Cellar Café in New York, performed as a trio with Gary Peacock (bass) and Sonny Murray (drums). Opening with the title track from his classic album Spirits, released the same year on Denmark’s Debut Records, the album includes variations of his signature piece "Ghosts" and the title track "Prophecy," which was premiered at this very performance. This recording captures Ayler’s distinct musical style and powerful performance. The first Japanese domestic release came in 1978 as part of the ESP Disk Jazz Masterpiece Collection by Nippon Phonogram.
