An album released in 1972 by American saxophonist Albert Ayler, who made his name in 1960s New York as a leading figure at the forefront of avant-garde jazz. It contains the same material as his historic masterpiece Spirits, originally released in 1964 on Denmark’s Debut Records, but with a revised title and track order. Featuring Norman Howard (tp), Henry Grimes (b), Earle Henderson (b), and Sonny Murray (ds). Needless to say, this is a landmark work where Ayler’s highly original universe comes to life—a pinnacle of spiritual avant-garde jazz, channeling animal spirits such as saints, holiness, and spirit itself, blasting forth melodies like cries rising from the depths of the soul. This edition is the domestic release on Trio Records.
