A little-known 1976 solo masterpiece by German bassist Alfred Haurand, who also worked with British saxophonist Alan Skidmore and Dutch keyboardist Jan Huydts. In addition to double bass, Haurand plays the Z-bass, an upright electric bass built by Henk Van Zalinge, as well as flute, percussion, and other instruments, performing everything himself through extensive overdubbing. A1 sets the tone with simple phrases and melodies repeated against strange, unidentified drones and eerie sound effects, opening into an extraordinarily deep soundscape that seems to lead toward some unknown Fourth World. The entire album unfolds with this mysterious, otherworldly atmosphere. Seriously wild.
