This album was self-released by Alice Coltrane in 1968 after the death of American saxophonist John Coltrane in 1967. Coltrane, who honed his skills under Miles Davis and Thelonious Monk in the 50s, expanded Miles' established mode jazz to a high dimension from the 60s onward and became a legendary giant. This is the major distribution version licensed and released by Impulse! in 1969. Featuring Alice Coltrane (piano), Pharoah Sanders (ft, ts), Jimmy Garrison (b), Ben Riley (ds), Rashied Ali (ds), and Ray Appleton (ds). Released under the joint names of John and Alice Coltrane, A1 and B1 are recordings made in 1966 just before his death, while A2 and B2 are by Alice Coltrane. As the title suggests, John Coltrane's view of life and death, based on his intuitive understanding of the cosmos as chaos through music and religion, is expressed as a soul of sound. It is a state he reached after passing through "A Love Supreme." B2 by Alice Coltrane and Pharoah Sanders is also wonderful. You can hear here the melody that Pharoah Sanders would later quote.

A2: Manifestation
B2: The Sun
