Album released in 1972 by American harpist Alice Coltrane, who was a major influence on her husband John Coltrane and continued to pursue a cosmopolitan musical world after his death. It features a string orchestra of 14 musicians in addition to jazz allies such as Frank Lowe, Leroy Jenkins and Reggie Workman, and features narration by yoga master and teacher Swami Satchidananda. The album opens with 'My Favourite Things', which was covered by John Coltrane in the film Sound of Music and became a jazz classic, followed by a magnificent strings sound, and ends with a psychedelic jazz funk of her husband's historical masterpiece 'a Love Supreme', sublimated in a psychedelic arrangement, creating a huge cosmic picture scroll that far transcends the boundaries of jazz. Needless to say, highly recommended.
