After her debut at the Lisbon nightclub Casa do Fado at the age of 18, Amália Rodrigues went on to enjoy a long and illustrious career at the forefront of music, becoming known worldwide as the “Queen of Fado.” This 1980 release stands as a landmark album, marking the first time she wrote her own lyrics. The compositions were provided by guitarists José Fontes Rocha and Carlos dos Santos Gonçalves, both of whom had performed with her at Casa do Fado and also contribute here on guitar. Blending influences of Gypsy and Brazilian music, this masterpiece captures the deeply emotional, nostalgic, and melancholy essence of fado in all its brilliance.
