An album released in 1980 by the American pianist Amina Claudine Myers, known for her work with free-jazz musicians such as Lester Bowie, Muhal Richard Abrams, and Anthony Braxton, as well as for outstanding solo recordings including Jumping in the Sugar Bowl. The album collects duo performances with American drummer Pheeroan akLaff, a key figure in the free-jazz scene, recorded in a New York studio in 1979. Dedicated to Myers’s mother, the music prominently features organ alongside piano and incorporates vocals from both musicians, resulting in a deeply emotive performance that at times evokes the atmosphere of progressive rock or psychedelic rock. A truly essential masterpiece—every track comes highly recommended.
