Andreas Fuyu Gutzwiller, a German shakuhachi player, studied the shakuhachi under the guidance of Araki Kodo IV and Kawase Junsuke III. In 1974, he obtained a Ph.D with a thesis on the history and music of the shakuhachi. He became the first certified Kinko-ryu instructor in Europe. The album, released in 1984, features performances by Andreas Fuyu Gutzwiller, showcasing four pieces of Kinko-ryu honkyoku played by Miura Kodo, a shakuhachi player from the Meiji to early Showa eras. The album masterfully expresses the world of Zen, where the withered tones of the shakuhachi resonate tranquilly alongside vivid breath control, seamlessly merging with nature.
