This 1969 album is by the American drummer Andrew Cyrille, who, in his teenage years, participated in sessions with the likes of Coleman Hawkins and Ted Curson. He later joined the Cecil Taylor Unit in the mid-1960s, where he played a significant role in Taylor's sound for many years. The album was released as the 16th installment in the renowned <Actuel> series by France's BYG Records. The recordings on this album were made in a Paris studio in the same year, and the entire album consists of drum solos performed by Cyrille. His drumming maintains an extremely primitive and dynamic quality, delivering an intense and tempestuous performance that pours down like a storm. In A2, there is a brief moment of serene drumming that provides a contrasting experience. Prepare to immerse yourself in a shower of percussion sounds with a meditative, free-spirited approach. Highly recommended.
