Since her debut in the early 1970s, Brooklyn-born musician Annette Peacock has created a remarkable body of highly original masterpieces. This album was released in 1988 on her own Ironic label. Featuring then relatively little-known British session musicians including Ed Poole on bass and Simon Price on drums, the album was recorded at the studio owned by Barbara Thompson and Jon Hiseman in Sutton, Outer London. The combination of tight beats, Peacock’s own keyboard playing, and her almost rap-like poetic delivery still sounds strikingly fresh and innovative. qAlthough it can be approached from many angles—rock, jazz, funk, new wave, and beyond—this is music that is unmistakably and completely her own. Every track is outstanding. Highly recommended.
