Since her debut in the early 1970s, Annette Peacock, the innovative composer and musician from Brooklyn, New York, has continued to create a number of groundbreaking works. After a 12-year silence, she released this masterpiece on CD in 2000, which ECM has now issued for the first time on vinyl in 2024 as part of its Luminessence series. Featuring Peacock on piano and vocals, joined by Marek Konstantynowicz (viola) and violinists Henrik Hannisdaland Odd Hannisdal, the album unfolds like a lyrical chamber poem. Unlike her earlier, more avant-garde works, Peacock’s voice here conveys the quiet intimacy of air suspended in a room, the delicate trace of raindrops on a windowpane. Every track is truly exquisite.
