Album released in 1970 by Archie Shepp, a gem of a saxophonist who, alongside John Coltrane and Cecil Tayler, has produced many African-inspired jazz masterpieces. The album features a cast of musicians who were at the forefront of avant-jazz at the time, including Sunny Murray (ds), Clifford Thornton (tp), Noah Howard (as), Leroy Jenkins (viola), Dave Burrell (p), Earl Freeman (b), and was ecorded in Paris in 1969. Featuring Chicago blues singer Chicago Beau and harmonica player Julio Finn, this is a superbly long, soulful session that gets to the heart of black music. Highly recommended.
