This album was released in 1965 by Archie Shepp, a gem of a saxophonist who, along with John Coltrane and Cecil Tayler, has produced many African-inspired jazz masterpieces. The album features Marion Brown (ts), Ted Curson (tp), Joseph Orange (tb), Joe Chambers (ds), and Reggie Johnson (b).
This is a masterpiece that shows the balance between the avant-garde and the soulful approach that makes you feel the groove from start to finish. The B1, dedicated to Malcom X, a leader of Black Nationalism alongside Martin Luther King, is also a must-listen. This is a limited German pressing from the <Warner Collectors Society> series, using DMM cutting and the same outer sleeve as the US release. The sound quality is refined.
