The recording features an impressive lineup including Grachan Moncur, Beaver Harris, Bernard Purdie, Dave Burrell, Cecil Payne, Joe Chambers, and Cedar Walton, among many others. Side A showcases jazz-funk and soul-jazz tracks featuring vocalists such as Leon Thomas, while Side B presents avant-Afro-jazz steeped in the minimalism of African traditional music. This masterpiece, rich in Afro-spiritualism, serves as a prelude to later landmark works like Attica Blues and The Cry of My People. Original U.S. pressing.
