Album released in 1976 by Archie Shepp, a gem of a saxophonist who, alongside John Coltrane and Cecil Tayler, produced a number of back-to Africa jazz masterpieces. A1 and B1 feature Bobby Few (p), Bob Reid (b), Mohamed Ali (ds), Clifford Thornton (tb), Al Shorter (fh), Djibrill (per), Ostaine Blue Warner (per), Lester Bowie (tp). ), and recorded in Paris in 1970. It is the ethnic percussion sound reminds of birdcalls, and the jungle jazz plunges into raging improvisation. B2 features Noah Howard (as), Sonny Murray (ds), Arl Freeman (b), Jilio Finn (harmonica), Dave Burrell (p), Clifford Thornton (tp) and Leroy Jenkins (viola), Chicago Beau (vo), recorded also in Paris in 1969, this is a great performance with a bluesy groove based on a waltz beat. Recommended in its entirety.
