Released in 1977 as part of CBS/Sony’s audiophile Dyna Sound 45 series — recorded at 76 cm/s master tape speed, cut at 45 rpm, and manufactured using the Direct Plating Type II process. Side A features percussionist Yasunobu Yamaguchi — renowned for his performances of Toru Takemitsu’s works — in a solo realization of Karlheinz Stockhausen’s Zyklus: dozens of differently tuned percussion instruments arranged in a circular setup, radiating pulsating events in space. Side B presents Wait by Jo Kondo, performed by Ark Percussion Staff led by Yamaguchi, with Michael Ranta and Yoji Sadanari among the ensemble. An exquisite percussion tapestry in which finely articulated strikes surge and recede like waves — an outstanding example of percussion ensemble writing and execution. Highly recommended.
