An American saxophonist who played with groups such as Lionel Hampton’s and Wynonie Harris’s from the 1940s and led his own band in the early 1950s, Arnett Cobb released this album in 1960 on Prestige’s Moodsville label. The quartet features Red Garland (p), George Duvivier (b), and J.C. Heard (ds). As the title suggests, the album consists entirely of jazz ballads, unfolding slowly with a deeply mellow atmosphere. Cobb’s slightly weathered tone delivers rich, expressive melodies, making this a truly immersive listening experience.
