Art Ensemble of Chicago, a group from Chicago, U.S.A., which plays free/experimental jazz rooted in African traditional music, released their masterpiece album on ECM in 1980. The first half of the album features a variety of organic sound effects such as chimes, gongs, bells and chirping chickens. It's a strong album of experimental jazz, but the great thing about these guys is the organic feeling that lurks within such an avant-garde orientation. The album comes with a rare booklet containing the ECM label catalogue and order sheet for distribution in the USA.
