This is a 1971 album by the American group Art Ensemble of Chicago, hailing from Chicago and known for their fusion of African traditional music roots with free/experimental jazz. The ensemble consists of Roscoe Mitchell, Lester Bowie, Malachi Favors, Joseph Jarman, and Famoudou Don Moye. The A-side of the album begins with meditative gong sounds and gradually builds up into intense improvisations. The B-side starts with a primitive introduction, with various percussion instruments creating a cacophonous atmosphere, and then evolves into a fusion of Black music traditions, dedicated to Albert Ayler. With the addition of Don Moye, the group further strengthens their expression and you can feel the starting point of the 1970s Art Ensemble of Chicago's evolution. Highly recommended.
