The Art Ensemble of Chicago, a group synonymous with free/avant-garde jazz with an African spirit, released this ECM album in 1984. AEOC is a group that first comes to mind with their eccentric ethnic makeup and costumes and avant-garde tastes, but this album is a masterpiece with more Afro colors. A1 has an organic feel that gently fills the space with various percussion instruments and long tones of synthesizers, and A2 is a very cool ethnic jazz funk with a horn section that plays funky rhythms and Don Cherry-like scales, intertwined with lively percussion instruments and trippy synth sounds.
