An album released in 1957 by Art Pepper, an American saxophonist who played in big bands led by Stan Kenton and Benny Carter since the 1940s, and formed his own combo in the 1950s, leading the West Coast jazz scene. The album was released by Jazz:West and features recordings from 1956 at Capitol Studios in LA with a quintet including Jack Sheldon (trumpet), Russ Freeman (piano), Leroy Vinnegar (bass), and Shelly Manne (drums). It showcases a very cool and refreshing taste of bop typical of West Coast jazz throughout. Recommended tracks include B4, which incorporates Afro-Cuban feelings, and B5, a bluesy jazz piece with a consistent tension. This is a reissue of the album originally released in 1993 by Toshiba EMI as part of the "West Coast LP Collection."
