An album released in 1988 by Astor Piazzolla, Argentina's leading bandoneon player who brought innovation to the tango world. Featuring the Orchestra of St. Luke's under the direction of Lalo Schifrin, a fellow Argentine composer internationally renowned for his film scores, it was live-recorded in 1987 at Richardson Auditorium in Alexander Hall, Princeton University, New Jersey. Side A's "Concierto Para Bandoneon" is a suite composed of three movements by Piazzolla in 1970, lasting over 20 minutes. Side B's "Tres Tangos" is another three-part suite newly composed for this concert. The performance is profoundly moving, with Piazzolla's passionate melodies blending with the elegant and enchanting orchestral arrangements, showcasing his unique brilliance beyond his mature years. Highly recommended.
