Released in 1982 to coincide with Astor Piazzolla’s visit to Japan, this album reissues a live recording from Teatro Regina in Buenos Aires, originally released in 1970. The lineup features violinist Antonio Agri and bassist Kicho Diaz, both members of the Quinteto since its formation in 1961; pianist Osvardo Manzi, who was also active as a staff arranger and conductor for television; and guitarist Cacho Tirao, who spent a brief but notable period with the group. A valuable document capturing Piazzolla at one of the most inspired peaks of his career, the album is superb from start to finish—especially the four pieces on Side A, each portraying a season in Buenos Aires with remarkable expressiveness.
