American trumpeter Baikida Carroll was a member of the Black Artists Group, which also included Bobo Shaw and Oliver Lake, and played in groups with David Murray, Jack DeJohnette, Julius Hemphill and Sam Rvers. This is the third leader album released in 1982. The quintet included Julius Hemphill (as,ts), Anthony Davis (p), Dave Holland ()b) and Pheeroan Ak Laff (ds). A superb performance that sometimes showed an avant-garde aspect, but kept a steady groove throughout the piece. A2, a gentle number that evokes the image of a lake in the sunlight, is superb.
