A leader album by Barre Phillips, one of the most prominent bassists in the free jazz/avant-garde scene, known for leaving behind numerous masterpieces on labels like ECM. Released in 1973 as the third installment of ECM's sub-label JAPO, the album features a unique lineup of four bassists—Barry Guy (b), Stu Martin (per), Palle Danielsson (b), and J.F. Jenny-Clarke (b)—alongside one percussionist. The recording is particularly fascinating as each player is evenly distributed across the stereo field, creating the illusion of an interplay unfolding right in front of you. This is the Japanese edition with a silkscreen-printed design distinct from the German release.
