This is a leader album released in 1981 by Benny Golson, the tenor saxophonist who led the bebop/hard bop era, featuring trombonist Curtis Fuller. Produced by Nobuaki Kimata, the album includes contributions from Oscar Brasher (trumpet), Thurman Green (trombone), Bill Mays (piano), Bob Magnusson (bass), and Roy McCurdy, and features sessions recorded in a Los Angeles studio in 1980, as part of a Japan-exclusive release project. Tracks like the excellent B1, where Magnusson delivers a bass solo backed by the soft melodies of Mays on electric piano, and the emotionally charged slow number B3 dedicated to Clifford Brown, showcase a typical hard bop style infused with modern 1980s essence. Highly recommended.
