Released in 1978, this leader album is by jazz guitarist Bill Connors, who left behind a number of outstanding recordings for Paul Bley’s Improvising Artists Inc. and ECM. Recorded in Oslo, Norway, the album features an impeccable ECM quartet lineup of Jan Garbarek on saxophone, Gary Peacock on bass, and Jack DeJohnette on drums, with engineering by longtime ECM collaborator Jan Erik Kongshaug. Highlights include the spiritual jazz of A1 and B1, driven by DeJohnette’s exceptional drumming, and A2, where the delicate tones of Connors’ guitar seem to float within the silence. The taut sense of tension and cool, distinctly Nordic atmosphere make this an exceptionally striking album. This is an extremely rare Japanese white-label promotional copy. It appears to be a test pressing distributed to industry personnel, with only the catalogue number handwritten on the labels. No outer sleeve is included, but it comes with a sample copy of the liner notes.
