A classic duo album recorded in 1962 by Bill Evans and Jim Hall. The striking cover art, featuring a woman drifting on the surface of the water, leaves a strong impression, and the music itself perfectly mirrors that image: piano and guitar quietly sink into the depths, delicately illuminating each other’s spaces in a chamber jazz-like dialogue. On standards such as “My Funny Valentine” and “I Hear A Rhapsody,” they avoid overemphasizing the contours of the melodies, instead allowing deep emotion and introspective harmonies to emerge beautifully through subtle pauses and gently shifting resonances.
