American saxophonist Bill Saxton, who participated in Mongo Santamaria's 1973 album "Fuego" and Roy Haynes' 1976 album "Jazz a Confronto 29," released his only leader album in 1984 on a Swiss label, produced by drummer Alvin Queen. This one-horn trio features Ray Drummond on bass and Alvin Queen on drums, with John Hicks on piano joining for three tracks, creating a quartet. The album showcases a range of styles, from elegant hard bop to fast-paced post-bop. Highlights include the title track A1, featuring Hicks, and the bluesy jazz track B3, which covers a score by Roland Kirk.
A1: Beneath The Surface
B3: Ladies Blues
