American saxophonist Bob Mover—known for his role in disco-funk outfit The Players Association and for collaborations with jazz greats such as Phil Woods, Lee Konitz and Chet Baker—leads this adventurous 1986 session. Joined by Paul Bley (piano) and John Abercrombie (guitar) in a bass-less trio setting. Highlights include A1, a spacious duo with Bley’s quintessentially poised, interval-rich piano lines; A2, an improvised exchange with Abercrombie’s unmistakable guitar tone; and A3, where his guitar synth runs gloriously untamed. Across the set, each voice asserts a strong individuality while maintaining a finely judged collective balance—an engagingly avant-leaning exploration. Particularly recommended is B1, carried by Abercrombie’s guitar as it conjures an almost synthesizer-like drone.
