This is a trio album released in 1971 by pianist Bobo Stenson, who is known for his outstanding performance in Rena Rama and Okay Temiz's Oriental Wind, bassist Arild Andersen and drummer Jon Christensen, who have produced many masterpieces for ECM. From straight-ahead modal jazz, such as the title track A1, with its aggressive beat of drums and bouncy piano intertwined with the fast-paced bass, to the ethnic jazz of A3, with its organic sounding instruments, this album is full of mystic and sensitive playing that is typical of Scandinavian artists. This is a rare Japanese release from Overseas Records, a subsidiary of Teichiku Records.
