Cal Tjader
A Fuego Vivo
Concord Jazz Picante (US) 1982
CJP-176 (LP) Original pressing.
sleeve : M(IN SHRINK)
media : M/EX-(Side B has light curve that does not affect to playback)

Released in 1982 by Cal Tjader, the American vibraphonist who began performing in earnest in the early 1950s and went on to create numerous outstanding works infused with a strong Latin feeling. This album features live recordings from a concert held in 1981 at The Great American Music Hall in San Francisco. Alongside Gary Foster on flute, soprano sax and alto sax, Mark Levine on piano and electric piano, Rob Fisher on bass and Vince Lateano on drums, the session also features renowned percussionists including Poncho Sanchez and Ramon Banda on timbales. Together they deliver a set of cool Latin jazz richly coloured with Afro-Cuban flavour.
The Latin-arranged cover of John Coltrane’s classic “Naima” on B3 is especially superb.

Dead-stock, unused copy, opened at our store only for condition checking. Due to long-term pressure from the shrink wrap, there is a slight warp on part of Side B, but it plays without issue.

A2: Poncho Con Dos Amigos
