An album capturing the live recording of a 1964 concert at Salle Wagram in Paris by legendary American bassist Charles Mingus, who had been active since the early 1940s and left behind countless masterpieces and stories before passing away in 1979. The quintet features master musicians including Eric Dolphy (alto sax, bass clarinet), Cliff Jordan (tenor sax), Jaki Byard (piano), and Danny Richmond (drums). It’s a remarkable performance, offering long sessions of Mingus’s own celebrated compositions—such as the wonderfully adult, bluesy atmosphere of track A2 and the stunning, flowing flute work by Dolphy on B1—as well as renditions of jazz standards.
