The album features live recording from a concert held in 1974 at Carnegie Hall, with George Adams, Hamiet Bluiett, Jon Faddis, John Handy, Roland Kirk, Charles McPherson, Don Pullen, and Dannie Richmond accompanying Mingus. The A-side boasts a session lasting over 24 minutes, while the B-side exceeds 21 minutes, making for an extended and dynamic session. Led by the consistently cool bass lines of Mingus, this session showcases an intense and swinging hard bop performance where the participating members engage in a relay of highly spirited solos. McPherson's solo, in particular, exudes a sensuous allure.
