Lionel Hampton Presents The Music of Charles Mingus
Legend Of Music/RVC (Japan) 1979
RVJ-6037 (LP) w/insert.
sleeve : VG+(wear on corner, dirts.)

This album was released by legendary American bassist Charles Mingus in 1977 on Who’s Who In Jazz. Mingus, who had been active since the early 1940s and left behind numerous legendary performances and anecdotes, passed away in 1979. The album features a big combo lineup with Lionel Hampton (vb), Gerry Mulligan (bs, ss), Paul Jeffrey (ts), Richard Ford (ts), Jack Walrath (tp), Woodie Shaw (tp), Bob Nelums (p), and Danny Richmond (ds), all playing Mingus's original scores. Despite its relatively basic style, the album is full of highlights, with Mingus's thick bass providing a rich ensemble and Hampton's vibes shining brilliantly. Mingus's reworking of Duke Ellington's classic tune on B3 is also fantastic. This release features a design different from the original US edition, making it the first Japanese release with this design.
