Released on ECM in 1981, this trio album brings together Charlie Haden on bass, Jan Garbarek on saxophone, and Egberto Gismonti on guitar and piano. Garbarek’s crystalline soprano saxophone blends beautifully with Gismonti’s delicate acoustic guitar and Haden’s warm bass, creating exquisite music that evokes the deep forests of Northern Europe. It is an exceptionally quiet world in which every note gradually sinks deep into the listener. It is unusual to hear Gismonti’s guitar sound quite this cool and crystalline, though his musical personality remains the album’s most prominent overall. His humming voice on A1 is also fantastic.
