The group Old and New Dreams, consisting of Don Cherry, Dewey Redman, Charlie Haden, and Eddie Blackwell, released this album on ECM in 1979 following their previous release on Black Saint. Like their Black Saint work, this album is both a tribute to Ornette Coleman and an expression of the four musicians' present musical vision. Track A2, based on the traditional music of Ghana, Africa, features a stunning blend of Cherry and Redman’s unison African melodies intertwined with Blackwell’s earthy drum and percussion beats, creating a remarkable piece of African jazz. Track A3, a beautiful ethnic jazz composition by Cherry, is filled with a nostalgic atmosphere, highlighted by his expressive trumpet playing. Meanwhile, B2, composed by Redman, is an intense and immersive fusion of Coleman's spirit and traditional folk music—an absolutely mind-blowing experience.

A2: Togo
B2: Orbit of La-Ba
