Japanese-only issue released in 1987, featuring precious studio recordings made in 1986 in Monster, Holland by Chet Baker, one of the defining trumpeters of the American West Coast jazz scene. Based in Europe at the time, Baker is heard here in quartet with Harold Danko (p), John Burr (b), and Ben Riley (ds), performing a full set of standards. Throughout, his trumpet rises with a soft, relaxed touch, matched by that beautifully weathered vocal style and the unmistakable sense of ease—and fragility—that could only come from the winding path of his later years. A deeply moving late-period document, recorded just a year and a half before his untimely death. Produced by Shin Kiimata, who was involved in more than 300 jazz releases from the 1960s onward.
