This album was released in 1971 by A.R.C., a piano trio formed by Chick Corea (p), one of the leading pianists in the US jazz world, with David Holland (b) and Barry Altschul (per). Starting with Corea's dainty piano solo, A1 plunges into improvisation after modal interplay, and the album is full of free and experimental spirit that symbolizes early ECM. Especially on B1, you can hear Corea's playing, which gives a glimpse of the historical masterpiece "Return to Forever" to be released the following year. This is the Japanese version distributed by Polydor, and I am astonished at the label policy of ECM, which had already practiced transparently high-quality recording from this period.
